Will Vingegaard ride his last race of the season with the Tour of Poland?

Two-time Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard may be riding his final kilometers of the season at the Tour of Poland, sporting director Maarten Wynants told Danish Ekstra Bladet. Vingegaard will have time to be with his family after the Tour of Poland, as his wife will give birth to their second child. It is unclear whether anything else is planned for the Dane this year after his wife Trine gives birth.

"After Poland, he is concentrating on his second child. First, we have to see if the birth goes well, and then we will plan accordingly," Wynants says. What those plans will be is unclear. Vingegaard could highlight two goals in the fall: the World Cup on Sept. 29 and the Tour of Lombardy on Oct. 12. The first he has never ridden, the second he last rode in 2022.

Wynants does not dare say whether the Dane will participate in these races. So far, we haven't talked about that. First, he rides Poland, and then he concentrates on the baby. After that, we'll see what can be done. I don't know the exact date of birth, so I can't say "he will be ready after this date. "

Vingegaard is already experiencing a turbulent season

So far, 2024 has been a turbulent year for the two-time Tour winner. After a solid start to the season, Vingegaard slipped hard in the Tour of the Basque Country in early April, after which he had to recover for a long time and even spent 10 days in intensive care. After a disrupted preparation, he could still participate in the Tour de France, although with significant doubts about his level. That level was okay: Vingegaard finished second at 6.17 minutes from winner Tadej Pogacar. After the Tour, the level was much less: the Dane recorded a DNF in the Clásica San Sebastián.
