Lorena Wiebes won the final stage of the UAE Tour for women in Abu Dhabi in a sprint. Elisa Longo Borghini kept her leading position in the GC and could thus immediately give her new team, UAE Team ADQ, a very important victory in their home race.
After three stages in the United Arab Emirates, SD Worx-Protime and UAE Team ADQ exclusively did the work. On day one, Wiebes won in a sprint, then the Dutch (stage) and Longo Borghini ( GC) joined forces in the wind on day two. Heading into Jebel Hafeet, the Italian took the win again, thanks in part to excellent work by number two Silvia Persico.
The final day featured a 127-kilometer stage in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, starting at the Abu Dhabi Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Academy and finishing at the Abu Dhabi Breakwater. A ride that will have been marked out with the help of the local tourist office because, along the way, the tour also included the Yas Marina Island (including its Formula One circuit) and Qasr al Hosn.

It was predicted as a sprint stage, and with so many fast women in the peloton, it became just that. Loes Adegeest (FDJ-SUEZ), Morgane Coston (Roland), Nina Berton (EF Education-Oatly), Millie Couzens (Fenix-Deceuninck), and Yuliia Biriukova (LABORAL Kutxa) rode in front for a while. Still, this leading group of five barely got any space from SD Worx-Protime.
Wiebes' team reeled in the five and saw Elinor Barker (Uno-X) break away. The British rider grabbed a minute but, of course, knew it was all against the odds. She was caught with four kilometers to go, and we got ready for the sprint. In that sprint, Wiebes went incredibly simple to stage three in four days, while behind her, there were hard crashes...
