Zoe Bäckstedt, born on September 24, 2004, in Pontyclun, Wales, is a versatile British cyclist excelling in road racing, cyclo-cross and track disciplines. She is the daughter of former professional cyclists Magnus Bäckstedt, a Paris-Roubaix winner, and Megan Hughes, a British national road race champion. Zoe's sister, Elynor Bäckstedt, is also a professional cyclist, highlighting the family's deep-rooted cycling heritage.
Bäckstedt's early career was marked by significant achievements. In 2021, she secured the junior women's road race world title and earned a silver medal in the junior women's time trial at the UCI Road World Championships. She continued her success in 2022 by winning the junior women's time trial and road race at the World Championships, as well as the Madison at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships.
Transitioning to the U23 category, Bäckstedt maintained her impressive form. In February 2024, she clinched the U23 women's title at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Tábor, Czech Republic, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the cycling world.
Later that year, she showcased her prowess on the road by winning the opening time trial of the Simac Ladies Tour, marking her first professional victory in a WorldTour event. Currently, Bäckstedt rides for the UCI Women's World Tour Team Canyon–SRAM, where she continues to demonstrate her exceptional talent and potential in the cycling arena.
