A week ago, Michel Wuyts caused quite a stir by making bold claims about a possible transfer of Remco Evenepoel to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. A contract worth ten million euros per year was said to be waiting for the two-time Olympic champion. Johan Bruyneel, however, finds his compatriot's claims ridiculous. He went all in during his podcast, THEMOVE. Bruyneel opened up about Evenepoel's plans for 2025. "He said he wants to get back to the feeling of being a grand tour winner," he stated. "I don't know if he said it himself or if the Belgian media put two and two together, but there are rumors that he wants to do the Giro and the Tour. It makes sense, as he has already won the Vuelta. Remco can win the Giro if the course suits him. He has also said he would never sacrifice Liège-Bastogne-Liège. But that’s doable, Liège and the Giro."
The conversation quickly shifted to the transfer rumors surrounding the leader of Soudal Quick-Step. Michel Wuyts came up on a critical note. "He had details about the 'almost done deal' between Remco and Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe. It was supposed to be worth ten million. When I saw that, I thought, this is complete nonsense. I did some research, and now I'm sure of it." According to the former team director of Lance Armstrong, Wuyts is trying to stay afloat with wild statements. "He's an old guy, one of the most prominent TV commentators of the past. But he has been sidelined. Now he's making noise to stay relevant. In Belgium, we call him the self-proclaimed pope of cycling. He is no longer that, and he never was."

"Remco would never walk away from a 10 million euro contract"
"Remco would never walk away from a ten million euro contract, first of all. Secondly, I don’t know anyone who would spend ten million euros per year on a rider who isn’t the best in the world. Pogacar earns eight, 8.5 million euros, and he is by far the best. Remco is around four million euros," the 60-year-old Belgian claimed. He concluded with a final jab: "Michel Wuyts, you are a fossil trying to stay alive."
