While teammate Mads Pedersen was putting in an extra effort in Paris-Nice to prepare for Milan-Sanremo, Jonathan Milan dominated the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico once again. The Italian did so with teammate Filippo Ganna, who helped him in the final kilometer after Milan had helped him during the intermediate sprint. And so (almost) everyone was satisfied...
Ganna and Milan were spotted busily discussing and gesticulating several times along the way. INEOS Grenadiers set a high pace on the climbs, catching the fast men. Olav Kooij (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco AlUla) were dropped along the way, but Milan could keep up with great difficulty and pain.
INEOS did this to close the gap between Ganna (third) and number two. Antonio Tiberi and Milan contributed. Lidl-Trek sprinter positioned himself behind Ganna and in front of Tiberi at the intermediate sprint, 43 kilometers from the finish, which was just enough.
Ganna must have thought it was a 'one favor for another.' The INEOS Grenadiers rider helped out in the final part of the race, guiding Milan to the stage win, although it was a very close call with second place going to Sam Bennett of Decathlon AG2R. "I am pleased with my second stage win in this Tirreno-Adriatico," said Milan.

"I have to thank my teammates because it was a difficult lead-out,' continued Milan, who had to do without his regular lead-out man Simone Consonni. 'It was difficult along the way, but I am disappointed that Jasper Stuyven had a nasty crash in the final. I hope all the riders who crashed are not too badly hurt."
"I also crashed a few days ago, which didn't make the last few days very easy, but I'm glad I can now end Tirreno-Adriatico with two stage wins," Milan said.
