On Sunday, Thymen Arensman finished third in the Paris-Nice GC. The Dutch rider from INEOS Grenadiers had competed with the best riders in the race all week and saw his efforts rewarded in Nice. He was understandably pleased, especially since teammate Magnus Sheffield won the final stage and finished fourth in the GC.
Arensman posted a preview on Instagram. “Happy with this result but even more happy with how we raced as a team! A stage win, 3rd + 4th + 9th in GC and to top it all up we won the team GC! Super proud of everyone in the team - riders and staff," said Arensman, who tagged his new coach Adrian Lopez Garrido.
Arensman used the British team's communication channel to reflect on the final stage of Paris-Nice. "It was a great day. Magnus won the stage, and as a team, we finished third, fourth, and ninth. It was a successful week, in other words. And we're very happy with that," said the proud rider.

"We created the plan, and everyone stuck to it," the Dutch rider concluded with satisfaction. "The plan was to ride hard from the start so that the other favorites would be isolated. Joshua Tarling did a great job in the valley and in the first part of the second climb, where the race exploded. We were still there with three guys so that we could benefit from our numerical advantage."
"I told Magnus that he should catch us from behind and that Tobias and I would be at the front. He could then attack from behind at full speed. Everyone was at their limit, and he could get away immediately. He did a great job; he must have had a super day, and the Dutch rider complimented his American friend. Tobias and I could defend his attack. I also had good legs, so I was in control. It's great that we finished third and fourth, mainly because everyone was part of it, like in the echelon race. The whole group is involved, and that's great."

Arensman does not see it as a milestone for how his team races and for himself. "We've been riding this way since the season's first race. We've gotten off to a great start. This is a wonderful result. If you do the basics right, it will come naturally. I don't see it as a breakthrough moment, but simply the way we enjoy racing," the GC rider said.
"I have already finished on the podium in a WorldTour race, but Paris-Nice is very nice. I feel a year older and stronger, and I hope to gain a few more percent on the Giro. I can often push myself a little more in the grand tours."
