Rumors of Jonas Vingegaard starting in the Giro d’Italia continue to simmer. The two-time Tour de France winner might consider participating in the Giro in 2025. Now, the 27-year-old Dane himself has weighed in on the speculation.
Giro or not, Vingegaard’s main goal remains clear. "The primary objective will be winning the Tour," he told TV2. "I don’t think I’ll ever compromise when it comes to winning the Tour." Vingegaard and his team, Visma | Lease a Bike, are determined to avenge their defeat to Tadej Pogacar in the last edition. With proper preparation, they hope for a fair fight this time around.
Jonas riding the Giro isn’t out of the question, but everything hinges on the Tour. "I read somewhere that I might have to ride the Giro, so it’s possible I’ll do the Giro next year, but we haven’t decided anything yet," Vingegaard said cryptically. "If we think that's the better preparation and we think there's a chance of winning the Giro, then, of course, I think it would be cool to start there. We've seen that it’s possible to ride both the Tour and the Giro in the same season. We’ve seen that with Pogacar, so we’ll have to decide if we want to try that."

Visma | Lease a Bike previously dismissed Giro rumors regarding Vingegaard

Jonas Vingegaard has been linked to a debut in the Giro d’Italia for some time. In September, Visma | Lease a Bike expressed surprise at the rumors. "I really don’t know where this is coming from," team press officer Sander Kleikers said at the time. "It certainly didn’t come from us. I don’t know where Jonas will race next season." Team director Grischa Niermann, however, stated that all options were still on the table for Vingegaard. "We have our ideas and plans, but riders like Wout and Jonas definitely contribute with their own input as well," he said after the Tour de France route presentation.
