Early career and rise in cyclo-cross
Pim Ronhaar was born on July 20, 2001, in Almelo but grew up in Hellendoorn in the Netherlands. Initially, he focused on soccer, but by chance, he discovered cycling and quickly showed natural talent. Eventually, he shifted his full attention to cycling. In 2019, Ronhaar became the Dutch junior cyclo-cross champion, a victory that, along with numerous other strong performances, earned him a contract with Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal. There, he joined teammates like Eli Iserbyt, Michael Vanthourenhout and Laurens Sweeck.
In early 2021, Ronhaar achieved his biggest win to date, becoming the U23 Cyclo-cross World Champion in Ostend, finishing ahead of his Dutch teammate Ryan Kamp. That same winter, he made a strong impression among the elite riders, securing eighth place in the Dendermonde World Cup. His impressive results attracted the attention of Sven Nys's Baloise Trek Lions team, which signed Ronhaar in June 2021, despite his existing contract with Jurgen Mettepenningen’s team.
Development into a World Cup-level contender
In the 2021/2022 cyclo-cross season, Ronhaar claimed his first World Cup podium with a third-place finish in Besançon, France. The following winter, he secured his first professional victory at the Kleeberg Cross. Ahead of the 2023/2024 season, Ronhaar fully transitioned to the professional level and demonstrated his growth with strong results in road races as well, including a fifteenth-place finish at the Druivenkoers.
In the opening World Cup of the 2023/2024 season, Ronhaar placed third in Waterloo, USA, and began to see even greater success in November. He finished fourth at the European Championships and went on to win the World Cups in both Dendermonde and Dublin, establishing himself as a competitive force on the World Cup circuit.
