Pauline Ferrand-Prévot will not be the only strong mountain bike star on the road next season. Indeed, Human Powered Health has announced the arrival of young Austrian Mona Mitterwallner, a three-time world marathon MTB champion. "I want to become the best cyclist in the world," reads the ambitious press release issued by the team.

Just this year, Mitterwallner finished second at the European Cross Country Championships and competed in the Olympics, where she finished 18th in the race won by Ferrand-Prévot. Until 2026, the 22-year-old lady from Austria will combine the two disciplines. "I want to become the best cyclist in the world, so I've always said that road will be part of my future. That has always been part of the plan."

"After the Olympics, I wanted to test something new and step out of my routine, so I'm curious to know how much I can improve myself as a cyclist. I needed a new challenge," said the lady who thinks she can become a good climber. "On the mountain bike, you climb for two or three minutes, but it can be over an hour on the road. I want to try that and think I can be good at it, too."

"I'm used to pushing past my limit, but hopefully, I can do that in longer races. In addition, I have good cycling skills from mountain biking, so I hope to be among the ten percent in the descents. And I'm explosive," she describes herself as a road racer for Human Powered Health.

Mitterwallner participated in many sports in her youth and is now also a DJ

"I'm looking forward to the multi-day competitions. I'm good at repeated efforts over several days, but that's not something you often see in mountain biking. Racing full throttle for one week is something really cool, and I would like to see if I do indeed recover as quickly as I think I do," says Mitterwallner, who, as a young girl, also did volleyball, field hockey, ballet breakdance, and nowadays DJs in addition to cycling.

The Austrian woman attended her first training camp with her new team. "We are pleased with her arrival for her debut season on the road. Her great mountain biking results indicate her incredible talent and perseverance," said Ro De Jonckere, the team's manager.

"That she has already achieved so much at her age in one of the most demanding disciplines shows her strength and perseverance," he continued. "We look forward to supporting her during her transition to the road and are confident that her mentality and versatility will allow her to do well in the peloton."
