Alberto Contador and Chris Froome, who fought numerous heroic duels in their prime during major tours, reunited this week for a bike ride in Miami, where they both participated as guests in the 'Best Buddies Challenge.' In the past, Froome and Contador delivered thrilling battles in the mountain stages of the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Both stood on the final podium of the 2014 Vuelta, where Contador emerged victorious. Froome got his revenge in the Vuelta three years later. The two also competed in the 2013 Tour de France, which Froome won, while Contador just missed out on a podium finish.
Although they were fierce competitors during their professional cycling careers, the relationship between the two is friendly. This is evident from their words after their recent ride together. 'It was great to catch up with the one and only Alberto Contador in Miami,' Froome wrote on
Instagram. Contador,
in turn, felt nostalgic, saying, 'Reliving old battles!'
Froome is unstoppable
The two kept their ride to nearly forty kilometers, as shown on Contador's
Strava. With an average speed of nearly 38 kilometers per hour, they maintained a strong pace. While Contador retired from professional racing seven years ago, Froome shows no signs of stopping, despite his glory days being some years behind him. The four-time Tour de France winner has a contract with Israel-Premier Tech until 2025.
