Vingegaard starts Paris-Nice with a new helmet and may sacrifice himself for Jorgenson: "I'm not that selfish"

Jonas Vingegaard will start Paris-Nice on Sunday as a co-leader for Visma | Lease a Bike. For the first time, the Dane will be racing with a new helmet, becoming the second rider on the team—after Wout van Aert—to receive a personalized helmet. This is made possible by partner Bygma, a Danish supplier of building materials.

"It is a great honor to have Bygma as both a personal and team partner. Their support means a lot to me, and I am excited about this unique collaboration. The helmet is more than just a design – it is a symbol of our shared values and heritage," Vingegaard said.

The Danish leader also looked ahead to Paris-Nice, speaking through the race’s official channels. "Of course, I need to be better than last year if I want to win the Tour de France. In 2023, I rode Paris-Nice aiming to win, but I finished third. That was disappointing, but you can’t always win. Now, we’re back to see if we can win as a team."

Vingegaard will share leadership duties with Matteo Jorgenson. "I have a good relationship with Matteo and will be happy if he wins the race. I’m not that selfish—I don’t just say that I want to win and don’t care about others. I will be just as happy if Matteo wins, and I’m willing to sacrifice myself if he’s in a winning position or proves to be the strongest. And it works the other way around too."
