Eli Iserbyt won the GP Sven Nys among the elite men. The Belgian champion had been visibly struggling with his chronic nerve pain in recent weeks, but that was not to be seen in Baal in the X2O Trophy. Iserbyt kept Pim Ronhaar and Emiel Verstrynge behind him. Thibau Nys failed to deliver in his father Sven's race due to a dramatic opening lap.

After the cancelation of Mathieu van der Poel, Michael Vanthourenhout, and Lars van der Haar, all eyes in Sven Nys' cyclo-cross were on son Thibau. Would he win his home race in Baal for the first time? The start did not look very promising. Nys blasted away as European champion but slipped from his pedal on the asphalt.  As a result, he disappeared in the background, especially when he flipped upside down in the mud. He also had to change his shoe in the opening lap.

After a fast start by Daan Soete, the young Verstrynge took the lead. Nys' teammate Ronhaar joined him. Nys was in the chasing group with Iserbyt and Jenthe Michels. Toon Aerts also appeared to connect there but had already crashed. After Nys' shoe change, Iserbyt went chasing Verstrynge and Ronhaar alone, with Michels and Aerts on the defensive alongside Nys.

Who benefits from Thibau Nys' delay?

With four laps to go, Iserbyt closed in, and we had three leaders. The Belgian champion decided to attack immediately, but only Ronhaar could respond. Iserbyt's pace was nevertheless too fast, so it became a fierce battle at the entry of the final lap; the Belgian in the lead, Ronhaar at nine seconds, Verstrynge at sixteen, and Aerts at more than half a minute. Nys would undoubtedly not win his father's race today; he finished sixth.

The focus could thus be shifted to the front, where Iserbyt made no mistakes in the final lap, setting up for a very useful victory. Ronhaar proudly honored new sponsor Glowi with a nice spot two. Verstrynge finished third. Nys rode a brilliant final lap, pushing Michels back in the fifth spot battle.
